Goodwin Pumps Africa

News & Insights

A large Platinum Group Metal (PGM) mine in South Africa operates a surface processing plant to make high purity chromite for ferrochrome production. This case study outlines the challenges and solutions encountered in its operation.
The installation of the Goodwin Submersible Slurry Pump marked a significant improvement for the Power Plant. Not only did it efficiently desilt the cooling tower basin during shutdowns, but it also led to substantial cost savings by eliminating the need for expensive periodic cleaning contracts. Moreover, the reduced downtime during shutdowns contributed to increased productivity and operational uptime, further enhancing the plant’s efficiency.
At this Alakananda hydro power facility, the head of operations noticed that inefficient pump systems were failing to remove accumulated sediments from the desilting chambers. These chambers, which are critical to the filtration and protection of downstream equipment, were gradually becoming less effective.
This open pit mine in Rajasthan, India has a production capacity of 6 MTPA since it’s commencement in 2006.
